The Ruins, one of South Africa’s biggest New Year's Eve music concerts will return to St Francis Bay on 31 December 2011.

Although they are keeping things under wraps at this stage, event organisers have confirmed an impressive array of top South African bands to perform as well as prominent 5fm DJs.  One of the top bands secured is Zebra and Giraffe (Z&G) while other bands and 5fm DJs are still to be confirmed.

The news that The Ruins will be back has caused jubilation among the event's fans in St Francis Bay and ecstatic comments on FB, plus many hits and searches already on this site. St Francis Chronicle was also keeping quiet until our print edition due out shortly, but top news travels fast.  We will have an updated release in print and many more updates on this website leading up to the event itself.

Zebra & Giraffe are confirmed to play at The Ruins music concert on 31 December 2011

Z&G have had a whirlwind journey of success. The band consisting of Greg Carlin (vocals + guitar), Alan Shenton (guitar), Andrew Maskell (bass) and Darren Leader (drums) have toured across South Africa, played alongside international acts such as Oasis and Snow Patrol, picked up a SAMA award and are breathing new life into rock music. Their album The Knife hit the international scene.

According to the organisers this year’s event alone will secure in excess of R1 million of direct investment and national marketing exposure for St Francis Bay and surrounding areas. The Ruins outdoor rock concert staged in St Francis since 2001 has become synonymous with hosting among the hottest New Years Eve line–ups.

And St Francis Chronicle will once again have lucky tickets to give away   So keep checking back on this website  from the beginning of December, when tickets arrive in St Francis Bay, for our announcement in this regard.

The Ruins event has in the past attracted international artists such as Amy-Lee of Evanescence and Sean Morgan of Seether as well as pulled crowds of up to 10 000 party goers . This annual bash is open to all ages to celebrate and welcome in the New Year at the site next to the fire station.

The organisers are accepting applications by Eastern Cape bands, with the winning applicant being afforded the chance to perform on stage at The Ruins as the opening act to the event! Interested applicants are encouraged to get in touch with Catherine Thornton (catherinet at yellowzebra dot co dot za) by 15 November 2011.

Also once again the sponsors are SAB Miller and Police sunglasses whose combined involvement supersedes a decade. Tickets to The Ruins event can be purchased through Compu-ticket from 1 December 2011. Golden Circle tickets holders will receive a R500Police Sunglasses voucher valid against the purchase of any pair of Police Sunglasses as well as a Police lanyard as well as a free GQ / Glamour magazine.
